How did this patient hear about The Chateau at Brooklyn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center? From the Social Worker at the Hospital.

Details of experience:
Mr. Vernon Gumbs was admitted to The Chateau on August 27, 2020. Due to a gastrointestinal infection, Mr. Vernon was unable to walk and was totally bed bound. He was in the hospital for two weeks and did minimal rehabilitation after his surgery. He spoke with the Social Worker and the decision was made that Mr. Vernon required short term rehabilitation to return to his former life.

When Mr. Vernon Gumbs arrived at The Chateau, he had pictured in his mind what the environment would look like, but when he was brought in…he was blown away by the room and the décor. He was extremely excited to begin his rehab journey at The Chateau, so he could return to his home. After a good hot meal. he asked the aide to assist him to bed, so he could get a good night’s sleep. Early the next morning, after breakfast, Mr. Vernon was greeted by his physical therapist, Maher, and his occupational therapist, Astrud, and the journey began.

Throughout his stay, Mr. Vernon was pleased with our staff and how they took care of him. Before he was discharged, he made it his business to call the staff over to let them know how grateful he was for everything that they did. “If not for the therapist, I would not have been able to walk again. I’m so happy I chose The Chateau to get my rehab.”

After a few weeks of participating in rigorous rehabilitation therapy, Vernon was able to get out of bed on his own. Slowly but surely he was improving with his activities of daily living and taking care of his needs. After graduating out of his wheelchair and on to his rollator, he was very excited to be walking with the help of his rollator.

The day finally came. It was November 11th when Mr. Gumbs was going home, this was a bittersweet moment for The Chateau because he developed a great relationship with his aide and nurse.

Here, at the Chateau, we will definitely miss him and want to wish him only but the best.
