How did this patient hear about The Chateau at Brooklyn Rehabilitation & Nursing Center? Resident volunteered here previously.

Ms. Elaine T. was a patient at The Chateau after a short stay in the hospital due to pneumonia. Prior to beginning her journey at The Chateau, Elaine was a very energetic and independent person. However, after contracting pneumonia, she was very weak and was worried that she would not be safe at home. While at the hospital, she sat with the social workers who recommended that should gain more strength before returning home. Since she was a volunteer at The Chateau a few years prior and knew the wonderful outcomes of the patients here, she decided she would come here for rehabilitation!

When Elaine arrived at The Chateau, she was warmly greeted by all the staff. The staff who recognized her were so happy to see her! Everyone assured Elaine that she would receive all the care she would need to be able to return home!

As the days went by, she began seeing improvement and was ecstatic with the progress she was making. Although some days were harder than others, she always made time for her therapists to ensure that she would go home as soon as she was ready and able.

After a few weeks of rehabilitation, the staff felt comfortable sending her home for a home site visit. Her therapy team was overjoyed to witness the significant improvement she had made in such a short span of time. At the time of discharge, she was fully independent with a rolling walker and was already looking forward to coming back to The Chateau for visits and volunteer work.

Prior to her discharge home, Elaine sat with the staff to express her gratitude, stating, “when I used to come and volunteer I only witnessed the great work the staff was doing as an outsider. However, after being a patient, I was able to experience firsthand how amazing the staff truly is and how they turned my life back on track so that I continue doing what I love. I will be forever grateful for their work and can’t wait to come back again to spend time with this wonderful group.”

The staff were all so happy for her and we cannot wait to see her again very soon as a visitor!
