 Details of Experience:

While living independently for many years, Ms. Fredericka Meah experienced an unfortunate fall in early December of 2022. She was walking from her room to the kitchen when she tripped over a small box and twisted her leg. She knew something was wrong but did not know to what extent. After a talk with her family, Ms. Meah decided to go to Methodist Hospital and get her leg checked out. The doctors ran some tests and X-rays; they found she had broken her right femur. They determined that the patient required surgery and rehab post-surgery.

After deciding to go to a rehabilitation center, Ms. Meah started researching to find the best facility for her. She went through Google and the reviews only to find The Chateau at Brooklyn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center to be the best. On December 12, 2022, The Chateau welcomed Ms. Meah into the facility. She was greeted with a warm welcome gift presented by the concierge and a beautiful smile from the receptionist. After being brought to her room, Ms. Meah was evaluated by the nursing team, dietary, recreation department, and the physical and occupational therapist. Each team reviewed how they would help Ms. Meah get stronger and healthier and help her reach her goals. Ms. Meah expressed appreciation from the team, knowing she made the right decision coming to The Chateau. She told the team she had a goal of returning back home as independent as possible. With this in mind, the team created their plan of care accordingly. The following day, Ms. Meah began her physical and occupational therapy. She is a motivated woman, determined to reach her goal. With this mindset, Ms. Meah will get stronger and healthier. She began working in the rehab gym, using various machines to work out all the different muscles. She was not able to do too much since it was her first day and her body was not strong; however, with her strong mindset, she knew she will get there soon.

After a few weeks, Ms. Meah saw progress being made. Although she was not walking yet, she felt the machines getting easier and her muscles getting bigger. Day after day, she was putting in the work and started to see progress. She was able to take her first steps in the beginning of February and it only went up from there. After three weeks, she was walking over 100 feet. Ms. Meah knew she was doing great, but felt there was more to do. Living in a two story walk up, she knew she needed to master steps before going home. After another few weeks of strengthening her muscles, Ms. Meah could do her first steps in the stairwell. She was smiling and super happy with how strong she had become. She did not think she could do what she was doing so quickly. Ms. Meah stated, “The staff at The Chateau has proven to be as great as advertised. They truly are amazing in all facets of the facility.” After several weeks of working hard, Ms. Meah walked more than enough to go home and do plenty of stairs. By completing her rehab goal, the social workers could schedule a discharge date of March 22, 2022. Ms. Meah was so thankful for everything that was done for her. She went on to say, “The Chateau really changed my life. They helped me return to being the person I used to be, plus more. I cannot thank them enough for giving me back my life.”

We at The Chateau wish her the best and are honored to be able to have helped another incredible woman accomplish her goal.
