Details of Experience:

Mr. R has been a resident at The Chateau for the last two months. Mr. R.’s stay with us happened as a result of an injury to his back and neck. After being seen by his primary doctor he was admitted to New York Community Hospital. It was there that a social worker suggested that he come to The Chateau to receive physical therapy.

Mr. R.’s stay here was a little shaky at first. He was understandably a bit agitated at having to come to a nursing home instead of being able to go straight home from the hospital. However, as time went on Mr. R. and the staff became familiar with each other. This relationship became the foundation for the care that Mr. R. received here. Because he and staff formed a rapport therapy was enjoyable even though it was physically demanding.

Mr. R. also enjoys the array of activities that our Recreation department has to offer; his favorite two being Bingo and the Catholic Mass that is put on once a month. By partaking in recreational activities he is able to feel more at home and less as though he is staying in a medical setting.

Mr. R.’s goal is to ultimately go home once his course of care is over. He is currently working with his social worker to find an adult home to live in. He has felt comfortable to relate to his social worker the stresses that characterized his previous living situation. He is hopeful that she will help him to find stable, long term housing.

During Mr. R.’s stay here he has come to see the best of The Chateau.
